Dill’s going back soon. It won’t be the same without him here. Even though Scout and I told Atticus we were going to accompany Dill by Miss Rachel’s fish-pool, we decided to go for a walk. Yet again, Scout protested. Don’t get me wrong. I love Scout but at times she can really act like a girl. In the end she decided to come and we went to take a peak at the Radley house. We went all the way to the back window, and unfortunately, got caught. It was frightening! Imagine a shotgun firing while escaping from a supposedly haunted house with a maniac monster inside. We ran to the school yard and I got stuck at the fence. Had to take off my pants! Atticus noticed it when all the adults gathered to discuss who fired the shotgun and luckily Dill saved me. Said we were playing strip poker by the pool. We were fortunate that Atticus bought it. We said good bye to Dill when we walked past Miss Rachel’s house and we promised to write.
At the dead of the night, I decided to go get my pants. I should have listened to Scout! For the first few times, she was right. When I went back, I found out someone had folded my pants. It was creepy! Anyways, school started soon enough. The sixth grade rocks! The classes are getting more and more interesting and I really pity Scout. Still in the second grade! Don’t worry little sis, just a few more years…
In October, while walking back from school, something in the knot-hole stopped us. Scout took the item out and it was two small images craved in soap. I can’t believe Scout threw them down like that! It was as though the person who made these were carving the both of us. We spent time guessing who it was and decided that it may have been Mr Avery. The next few weeks we had more things. Chewing gum, a tarnished spelling medal and the best of all, a pocket watch with an aluminium knife on the chain. When I showed this to Atticus, he thought I had swapped grandfather’s watch for this. Like I would. I know the watch means a lot to Atticus and I would NEVER lose it. Then, we decided to write a letter to the person who has been leaving us the things in the knot-hole. When we were about to put it in, we found out it was covered in cement! Scout was so sad that she cried! But it was natural. I decided to ask Mr Nathan and guess what? He said he covered it only because the tree was dying. However when I asked Atticus he said it was not. I stayed on the porch, thinking and even though I hate to admit it, I cried. It was saddening. I really, really wanted to thank the person.
