Winter finally came and for once, we experienced snow! It was so wonderful and the best thing was, SCHOOL GOT CANCELLED!! Unfortunately, Mrs Radley died during winter too. Boo Radley finally did it. First his dad, now his mum. When is he ever going to stop? Anyways that morning was entertaining. I woke up when Scout screamed. Apparently she thought the snow was some kind of invasion and that the world was ending. It was HILARIOUS! Since we had no school, Scout and I decided to make a snowman. We went over to Miss Maudie’s so get some snow. She doesn’t like the snow that much. Says it ruins her azaleas. So we made the snowman and it was a masterpiece. When Atticus got home we dragged him to the back yard where the snowman was and he was greatly impressed.

The shocking thing was what happened in the middle of the night. Miss Maudie’s house caught fire and it was all so sudden. I had to take care of Scout but no complaints there. We were so engrossed in the whole situation that we didn’t notice that someone gave Scout a blanket. Personally, I think Boo Radley really was the one who gave Scout the blanket. She was so frightened. But who wouldn’t be? We didn’t go to school again. Atticus said we wouldn’t be able to concentrate without sleep. We had to clean the front yard but before that we went to see Miss Maudie. She didn’t seem sad at all that her house was burnt! Instead, she was really optimistic! She was very caring too. She said she was only worried that the fire would spread to others. When we offered to help her, she rejected it and said we have our own problems to take care of and she started laughing. She really puzzles me, Miss Maudie.

Dill’s going back soon. It won’t be the same without him here. Even though Scout and I told Atticus we were going to accompany Dill by Miss Rachel’s fish-pool, we decided to go for a walk. Yet again, Scout protested. Don’t get me wrong. I love Scout but at times she can really act like a girl. In the end she decided to come and we went to take a peak at the Radley house. We went all the way to the back window, and unfortunately, got caught. It was frightening! Imagine a shotgun firing while escaping from a supposedly haunted house with a maniac monster inside. We ran to the school yard and I got stuck at the fence. Had to take off my pants! Atticus noticed it when all the adults gathered to discuss who fired the shotgun and luckily Dill saved me. Said we were playing strip poker by the pool. We were fortunate that Atticus bought it. We said good bye to Dill when we walked past Miss Rachel’s house and we promised to write.

At the dead of the night, I decided to go get my pants. I should have listened to Scout! For the first few times, she was right. When I went back, I found out someone had folded my pants. It was creepy! Anyways, school started soon enough. The sixth grade rocks! The classes are getting more and more interesting and I really pity Scout. Still in the second grade! Don’t worry little sis, just a few more years…

In October, while walking back from school, something in the knot-hole stopped us. Scout took the item out and it was two small images craved in soap. I can’t believe Scout threw them down like that! It was as though the person who made these were carving the both of us. We spent time guessing who it was and decided that it may have been Mr Avery. The next few weeks we had more things. Chewing gum, a tarnished spelling medal and the best of all, a pocket watch with an aluminium knife on the chain. When I showed this to Atticus, he thought I had swapped grandfather’s watch for this. Like I would. I know the watch means a lot to Atticus and I would NEVER lose it. Then, we decided to write a letter to the person who has been leaving us the things in the knot-hole. When we were about to put it in, we found out it was covered in cement! Scout was so sad that she cried! But it was natural. I decided to ask Mr Nathan and guess what? He said he covered it only because the tree was dying. However when I asked Atticus he said it was not. I stayed on the porch, thinking and even though I hate to admit it, I cried. It was saddening. I really, really wanted to thank the person.

Nag, nag, nag. That's all she is capable of. Luckily Dill’s back or else this summer would be a bore. We’re fortunate to have Miss Maudie Atkinson too. She accompanies Scout while Dill and I play. No one knows how happy I am. I also love her cakes. Her cooking’s the best after Calpurnia’s. I ALWAYS look forward to her delicious cakes. However, what I don’t get is why Uncle Jack always shouts across the street, asking her to marry him at Christmas. Adults can just be weird at times. One good thing about Miss Maudie is that she ain’t like Miss Stephanie Crawford. That’s lady’s mean! Miss Maudie’s the total opposite. She never told on us and was never interested in our private lives. She’s our friend.

The next day was supposed to be fun. Dill and I wrote a letter to Boo Radley, wanting him to come out. Scout delayed us again. She’s such a priss at times. Anyways this was Dill’s idea. Like I said, it is fun to have him around. When we just started, Atticus just had to show up and stop us from playing. I’m just a kid. Let me have my share of fun once in a while. Will it kill you? I’m not even sure if I still want to be a lawyer if that means having to act so upright and morally.

Why did Scout have to eat that chewing gum? Doesn't she realise that it's from the Radley's house. That it might actually be poisonous? Anyways Dill finally showed up. Was starting to miss him and I had actually counted down the days till he would finally arrive.

We played with the tyre today. As I'm too big to fit into it, i had to push and my first customer was Scout. Unfortunately, I pushed too hard out of frustration and she ended up rolling into the Radley place and she was so smart when she left the tyre there. What's so scary about running back into the place and bringing it back? Girls, I just don't get it. Luckily Calpurnia came out with lemonade. I was about to explode! On the bright side, I came up with a new game. It still isn't that good yet but I have a feeling it's about to get better. (:

It was the first day of school. Dill went back last week and let's face it. It was a boring week and today guess who had to walk Scout to school. Yes she's fun to hang out with but not in school in front of my friends! I wonder why all little sister's are so difficult to handle.

Atticus finally managed to pursue me. When he told Scout I delighted to walk her to school I almost vomited my whole breakfast out! During lunch Scout was horrible, rubbing Walter Cunningham's nose in the dirt. Doesn't she know that he's Mr Walter's son? Anyways, and at lunch today, so embarrassing. I thought I could die. Besides that and Scout coming to school, nothing much changed.
